{"id":352,"date":"2017-11-21T15:04:58","date_gmt":"2017-11-21T07:04:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/?p=352"},"modified":"2023-08-29T15:18:57","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T07:18:57","slug":"wagf-charity-day-november-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/2017\/11\/wagf-charity-day-november-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Charity Golf Day provides celebration of WAGF-aided programs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The annual <a href=\"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/\">WA Golf Foundation<\/a> \u2018Malaysia Truly Asia\u2019 Charity Golf Day proved another success on a picture-perfect day at the WA Golf Club on Monday, November 20.<\/p>\n<p>Seventy-two golfers enjoyed a memorable day out to help celebrate the significant work of a foundation that has raised more than half a million dollars since its inception in 2012.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/2017\/08\/bakers-hill-earns-national-acclaim-for-junior-golf\/\"><strong>Bakers Hill earns national acclaim for junior golf<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Lakelands Country Club quartet Ewen Trott, Bryan Drake, Dave Martin and John Alchin claimed first prize \u2013 a generous stay-and-play package from <a href=\"https:\/\/joondalupresort.com.au\/\">Joondalup Resort<\/a> &#8211; after their 94-point haul was enough to win on a countback.<\/p>\n<p>The day also enjoyed strong support from proud partners <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/channel\/UCnTJRksbHP4O8JSz00_XRQA\">Tourism Malaysia<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.malindoair.com\/au\/\">Malindo Air<\/a>, who offered return flights to Kuala Lumpur for two as a door prize.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/P1240035.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-35677\" src=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/P1240035.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"434\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Matthew Deal, who was a part of the Frogmat team beaten on a countback, earned the significant consolation of that prize after his name was drawn from the hat by recently-retired WA Golf Club general manager Brian Close.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.pga.org.au\/\">The PGA of Australia<\/a> also donated a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldsuper6perth.com\/\">World Super 6 Perth<\/a> pin flag, signed by 2017 champion Brett Rumford, as well as two passes to the Super Suite during next year\u2019s tournament at Lake Karrinyup Country Club from February 8-11.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/2017\/01\/tibbles-pasion-inspires-award-winning-programme-for-disable-golfers\/\"><strong>Tibbles&#8217; passion inspires award-winning program for disabled golfers<\/strong><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cThe WAGF Charity Day has become a much-anticipated part of the local golf calendar and provides an opportunity to reflect on the all-encompassing impact the Foundation has had on growing golf in this state in such a short period of time,\u201d WAGF Chief Executive Gary Thomas said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSupport from across the state has been central to its success with the WAGF having now funded or committed to 81 projects that have helped create a depth of opportunities to play the game of golf across communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_35678\" style=\"width: 660px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Untitled-design-67.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-35678\" class=\"wp-image-35678 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Untitled-design-67.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-35678\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The winning group from Lakelands tallied 94 points around WA Golf Club<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The success of the WAGF-aided programmes has been underlined in the past 12 months with some of the highlights of its portfolio including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A programme at Rivervale Primary School \u2013 typically a lower socio-economic background \u2013 increased its enrolments by 15% due to the introduction of a golf programme coached by Mostyn Farmer.<\/li>\n<li>Highly-successful ladies programmes at <a href=\"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/2017\/04\/greenhorns-pave-way-for-golfing-success-in-wheatbelt-town\/\">Bruce Rock<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/2017\/04\/rockingham-golf-club-enthused-by-success-of-ladies-clinics\/\">Rockingham<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/2017\/05\/high-demand-for-wagf-funded-womens-programme-at-margaret-river\/\">Margaret River<\/a> Golf Clubs as well as the Lower Great Southern District Association.<\/li>\n<li>67 participants through <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/get-started\/inclusion-golf\/\">Mark Tibbles\u2019 First Swing programme at The Vines<\/a> for those with disabilities with a projection that the programme will increase to 120+ in 2018.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/get-started\/inclusion-golf\/\">Empower Golf Project<\/a> which provides disabled people normally confined to a wheelchair with access to a \u201cParagolfer\u201d \u2013 an all-terrain wheelchair that enables golfers that otherwise could not stand to take up the standard golf position.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The WAGF also offered special thanks to the WA Golf Club and its staff for providing the course in pristine condition and for the excellent service enjoyed by all of the players on the day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Untitled-design-69.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-35680\" src=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Untitled-design-69.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"650\" height=\"420\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Young Western Australian amateurs Hayden Hopewell and Josh Greer \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/2017\/11\/de-sousa-and-norris-lead-at-cottesloe\/\">the latter who won the boys\u2019 Drummond Golf Junior Amateur Championship of WA title the previous day<\/a> \u2013 provided playing support while professional Daniel Hoeve showed his class with a hole in the one at the par-three fifth.<\/p>\n<p>For details on how to apply to the WAGF for funding for a golf programme <a href=\"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/funding-applications\/\"><strong>please click on this link<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><em>:: G<\/em><em>olfWA is looking for new ways to grow the game at every level in the state and you can help by simply following us on social media.
