{"id":366,"date":"2018-06-06T13:49:47","date_gmt":"2018-06-06T05:49:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/?p=366"},"modified":"2023-08-29T15:18:57","modified_gmt":"2023-08-29T07:18:57","slug":"funding-continues-empowering-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wagf.org.au\/cms\/2018\/06\/funding-continues-empowering-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Funding continues Empowering story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Empower Golf is changing the lives of people all around Australia, continuing to make dreams a reality through playing the game we all love.<\/p>\n<p>The organisation is at the forefront of inclusion golf around the country, with their main premise to promote a program that allows anyone with a disability to play the game of golf.<\/p>\n<p>The WA Golf Foundation wholeheartedly supports the initiative and is beginning to fund several clinics around Western Australia, continuing the mentality that golf is a \u201cgame for life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Tom Hughson, who is the WA representative for Empower Golf, believes the funding will benefit the expansion of the program throughout the state \u2013 with ability to take the concept outside just the metropolitan areas.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am over the moon that Empower Golf has received the funding,\u201d Hughson proclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat it means is that we can continue to grow our program immensely \u2013 with many golf courses showing interest in the initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy getting funding I can actually get out and train more people to implement the ideas- giving people living with disability the chance to play golf.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe exciting thing about this year\u2019s funding is there is provision to travel to regional areas- particularly Kalgoorlie, Busselton and Geraldton. \u201c<\/p>\n<p>The program centres around working with a PGA Professional at each golf course, using adaptive equipment to give people the ability to play or learn golf.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40248 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_2661.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ParaGolfer, which is an all-terrain wheelchair, allows people with physical disability the chance to access different parts of the golf course,\u201d Hughson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis type of equipment is often used to adapt to an incident that may have occurred, getting the participant used to playing again, with the end goal of getting them back out on the course socially.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-40249 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/www.golfwa.org.au\/cms\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/IMG_5270.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Raising awareness of the difference this initiative is making continues to be the goal of Empower Golf, with the backing of the foundation key to further spreading the word around WA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor us \u2013 the money allows us to spread the word of inclusion golf to places we may never have had the chance to contact,\u201d he mentioned.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt gets the participant out not just for mental health but physical well-being as well.
