A WA Golf Foundation-funded initiative has continued to enjoy great success in providing golf opportunities for people with disabilities.
Staged by the Mark Tibbles International Golf Academy at The Vines Resort, the ‘Ready Steady Golf’ program is designed to maintain and continue to improve a program for those with disabilities, and to provide a pathway to mainstream programs and club membership.
Throughout 2022, Mark and his team delivered midweek programs for adults, with Saturday sessions for children and teens throughout school terms. Two variations on the program were available: the ‘Ready Golf’ program for younger children and adults with severe limitations using modified SNAG equipment; and the ‘Ready Steady Golf’ program for higher-functioning participants, which covered basic golf skills and golf-related games using conventional equipment.
The 2022 program attracted 41 new participants alongside 54 who were retained from the previous year. In total, the 95 participants resulted in 303 enrolments across all programs.
“We have found that the positive impact that the program provides by way of exercise, fresh air, social interaction, confidence building, self-esteem and friendships are of great appeal and benefit,” said Mark.
