The fledgling ‘Dads in the Rough’ social golf group for new fathers has staged its first series of lessons for its members.
Established at the start of 2023, ‘Dads in the Rough’ aims to provide a support network for dads who are struggling to cope with any aspect of parenthood. The group now has dozens of active participants.
Using WAGF funding, Dads in the Rough provided six series of lessons at Collier Park GC and Wembley GC between July and November, with 24 participants – half of whom were complete beginners.
Each series consisted of four fortnightly lessons in small groups, with PGA pros Richard Brain, Andrew Thomas (both Wembley) and George Campbell (Collier Park) putting the players through their paces on the range, and the putting and chipping greens. Each program concluded with nine holes of on-course tuition.
Dads in the Rough founder Aaron Lee said the lessons had been extremely well received. “We’ve received great feedback from those who took part,” he said. “It’s been an overwhelming success in terms of how much everyone seemed to enjoy it.”
